42. A 6-way tie in MAC West is still on the table | Not every team needs to lean on an RPO offense

EPISODE 42
There's only one MAC game going on this weekend — BGSU at Buffalo — because it's that time of year where we switch gears into midweek MACtion games being played. 
The MAC East is sort of garbage and straight-forward (lotsa bad teams; only a couple OK ones), but the West is really a beaut. It's also an excellent canvas for chaos.
Chaos situation that's still 100% able to happen: NIU goes 1-3 over its final four games while the other five MAC West teams goes 3-1. If dominos fall in certain directions, this is still a realistic finish for the year. At which point, what's the MAC's explanation for sending any one of these teams to Detroit?
RPO offenses are, uh, well Alex hates them but Kaleb uses them at the high school he coaches at. Shouts out to the football teams in the MAC finding success in 2021 without selling out to the RPO wave.

41. Northern Illinois 39, Central Michigan 38 | MAC game of the year, lock it in

EPISODE 41
Northern Illinois beat Central Michigan 39-38 on the road on Saturday, and now the Huskies of all teams have complete control of the MAC West race with a 4-0 conference record. Even more: NIU's the first bowl-eligible team in the MAC at 6-2.
NIU fought back from an 18-point deficit to take the lead (twice!) in the fourth quarter and banked on a kicker that you probably hadn't heard of until he stepped on the field for his first of three field goals. CMU was a mishandled snap on a late field goal attempt away from coming away with the win, but in a sport cluttered with coulda-shoulda-wouldas, Thomas Hammock and NIU are finishing things with wins. And nothing matters more than winning.

39. Ball State 38, Eastern Michigan 31

EPISODE 39
Alex went to EMU vs. Ball State to see if the Eagles would take down the defending MAC Champs. They did not, Cardinals won 38-31. 
The Eagles squandered three offensive drives in the first three quarters (punt, interception, punt) which turned into 17 points for Ball State. That was probably the biggest difference in the game.
Carson Steele's great and had the first 100-yard rushing game of his career (and for the team's season), but it's the Iron Man that I'm always infatuated with.

36. What‘s next? | Repeated clock management issues | Offenses should be playing better at Ohio, EMU

Now that we're two weeks through the season, we've seen enough football to start learning some things about these squads. While we don't have the time to go over all 12 MAC schools, there are some "what's next?" questions that are probably worth spreading around.
Toledo lost another game where it might've scored too quickly, and cost the team at Notre Dame. What's this to say about Jason Candle's coaching future?
Ohio's offense looked bad, and it's time to give this group a more serious look. We couldn't learn much about this team through three games last year, but two games taught us a lot about where this team is in 2021.
EMU's got a quarterback problem. They've got two that they really like, but planning out how to use both of them to put points on the board seems to be a damning issue.

NIU did the damn thing. I'm not going to type out the thing they want me to call it, but they did the thing at Georgia Tech.
It only took one guy at Western Illinois for Ball State to feel nervous.
Expected Buffalo to win big, but not *that* big.
Did we even learn anything about the MAC East?
Kent State barely scored at Texas A&M, but what else were you expecting?
CMU played well at Missouri. Shouts out Lew Nichols.
What's the MAC's record vs. the Big Ten going to be this weekend? There are four midwest road trips on Saturday.
